Rare opportunity to purchase a beautiful 3 bedroom dutch barge in great condition, with a garden mooring on the Thames.
‘Voorwarts’ was built in 1915 in Holland and brought over to England by the current owners approximately 5 years ago. She has been lovingly restored and renovated and now provides a spacious, welcoming, family home on the water.
The mooring is available with the boat. This is a garden mooring with a large private garden, with water and electricity. There is an elsan point and rubbish bins at the boat yard a short walk / drive from the mooring. Parking is in the garden (the current owners have 3 vehicles parked there behind the gate). The mooring costs are £671 per month (approx.), plus electricity.
Voorwarts is powered by a DAF 615 engine, which runs well. She was taken out of the water in August 2020 and was reblacked and had new anodes fitted. This was done at the boatyard where she is moored as there is a slipway here where she can be pulled out.
The current owners will get a brand new boat safety certificate put on the boat for the new owners. When they purchased the boat 5 years ago there was a survey conducted. They had some work done, which included raising the roof on part of the boat. The hull was inspected when the boat was taken out approximately 5 weeks ago and no obvious issues were seen. Any prospective owner is welcome to obtain a survey.
There is a room safe gas boiler that was fitted recently that provides the hot water. The boat is heated by 2 morso log burners, one in the living area and one in the master bedroom.
The layout is a reverse layout style with a large kitchen / living area, 3 bedrooms and a bathroom. Storage has cleverly been built in in lots of places on the boat.
The stern deck is spacious with access to the engine bay which is large and has plenty of storage room. There are double doors with a sliding hatch and steps down to the kitchen.
The kitchen is large and well equipped. The work surfaces are hand made with beautiful wood. There is a full size gas cooker, fridge and freezer and lots of storage and space. The height in this area is approximately 5ft 11. Steps then lead down to the large living area. This has the benefit of a large roof window which provides beautiful light to the area. There are storage cupboards hand built in the gunnels. A morso squirrel stove is fitted here making the whole space feel homely and comfortable. Head height in this area and the first 2 bedrooms and bathroom is 6ft 5 making the space feel very roomy.
A wide corridor with storage in the gunnels then leads to the first of 2 single bedrooms. This has a single bed and storage and has porthole windows. Next door is the second single bedroom which is a similar size to the first bedroom and again has a bed and storage. If someone wanted to they could turn this into one large bedroom, but the current owners’ teenage children have lived comfortably in these rooms for the last five years.
The corridor then leads on to the bathroom which is fitted out with a very large shower, sink with vanity unit and cassette toilet.
Finally there is the master bedroom. This is partially full height and partially lower (where the large bed is). The bedroom has a small squirrel stove fitted and a skylight.
This boat is a beautiful example of a traditional dutch barge that has been renovated to a high standard. The pictures show the boat well but we would highly recommend a viewing to see it’s full potential. Please note viewing is strictly by appointment only.
